BLACK ARK PERFUME
Over 2 years in the making, we are proud to share the first of our conceptual scents with you, inspired by the prime years (74-78) of Lee Perry's The Black Ark studio, Washington Gardens, Kingston, Jamaica.
Black Ark is a living, breathing scent, where rich, deep and sensuous woods, are punctuated by a tropical sea breeze infused with dazzling vibrant florals, intoxicating fragrant smoke, worn acetate, vegetation, sweat, pleasure, pain, light, darkness...........a true olfactory landscape.
Inside The Black Ark, Lee Perry channelled his soul through the most basic of equipment to produce some of the most spellbinding and dynamic musical productions and vibrations ever created. This music and Perry's alchemical like ability of transforming the most simple into multilayered, soulful and complex art forms has always been a constant source of creative inspiration for us.
We sourced vintage ORWO reel to reel tape which we burnt and ultrasonically infused into a base of koji fermented ginger (the fermentation process brings out spicy fragrant notes of the ginger), hibiscus and a deep, brooding, complex base structure built around Amyris and Lignum vitae two famous fragrant woods of Jamaica. We then added complexity and depth to this through the addition of a vintage sandalwood and a pure agarwood resin.
Using this dynamic base as our foundation, we added multiple layers of unctuous, green, vegetal notes from ripe mango skin and leaf, wild cannabis leaf and flower (hydro distilled oil, so no psycho-actives) and a beautiful aged patchouli.

Inside The Black Ark, Lee Perry channelled his soul through the most basic of equipment to produce some of the most spellbinding and dynamic musical productions and vibrations ever created. This scent produced in very limited quantities is a homage and a channelling of this incredible art. We’ll be delving deeper into the concept and production of this scent via the journal shortly.
Aromatics
Smoke infused and burnt vintage reel to reel tape ultrasonically infused into a base of koji fermented ginger, hibiscus, sandalwood, and raw agarwood resin. Blended with balsam torchwood, vintage guaiac heartwood, Jamaican allspice and mango leaf, wild cannabis, mango ginger, patchouli, and hypnotic florals of Jamaican Fire (red frangipani), white frangipani and ylang-ylang. Bottled by hand with vibrations of The Black Ark.
